WHO WE ARE

The March for Public Education grew from the simple premise that all students deserve a strong education. Today, the national conversation around student performance, school accountability and academic outcomes does not match our experiences as students and educators.
Rather than stand by as federal decisions impacted our students and their families, we decided to advocate for the issues we believe are not being adequately addressed or fairly represented. Our online membership quickly grew to 5,000 in the first week. The outpouring of support we received from students, parents, educators and retirees of our profession reaffirmed our core belief: A quality education is a necessity for a democratic society, and not the luxury of the few who can afford it.
We are teachers, counselors, social workers, school psychologists, professors, researchers, paraprofessionals, students, parents, and citizen-advocates who believe in high-quality public education for all children, regardless of their race/ethnicity, religion, gender (identity), sexuality, socioeconomic status, language of origin, immigration status, abilities, or their zip code. On July 22nd, in the long tradition of Americans using their voices to effect change, we will march together on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
